For more than four centuries, the Duboeuf family has been producing wine. And Georges Duboeuf is a name that needs no introduction, as he is famous for turning Beaujolais Nouveau into an international phenomenon. He cared a great deal about Beaujolais, and his dedication still resonates today – elevating both the Beaujolais region and Gamay grape to near-cult status.
2020 Château de Nervers Gamay, Brouilly, France
92 Points, James Suckling
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
The words charm, balance and elegance are perfectly suited to this wine. In its red and purple robe, this Brouilly displays delicate fruity aromas, especially of cherry and kirsch. It presents an unctuous mouthfeel with suave and silky tannins and a persistent and silky finish. This is a balanced wine with excellent aging potential.
A former hunting lodge, the Château de Nervers has been a family-run wine growing estate for almost 200 years. Six generations of de Chabannes have followed on from one another up to the current managers, Jean-Benoît and Tiphaine.
The vines are 50 years old on average. They grow on rocks and clay, producing well-structured and spicy wines. The yield per hectare is quite low and the acidity is not very high, allowing for the production of full-bodied yet well-rounded wines.

2019 Domaine de Javernière Gamay, Morgon, France
92 Points, James Suckling
Deep garnet color. A nice expression of the terroir with aromas of black fruits and black cherry matched with spices and a touch of pepper. Charming, voluminous and powerful on the palate with fine and coated tannins showcase the beautiful maturity of the grapes.
Morgon is the name of a hamlet which, due to its reputation for wine, has been attached to that of the village of Villié. Morgon comes from a special terroir made up of decomposed rock and friable schist, and is without doubt the most typical of the ten Beaujolais “crus”: certainly the easiest to identify on tasting. Its “terroir” taste becomes more intense over time : we therefore say that it ‘morgons’, an enigmatic word that has been unanimously adopted by its supporters.

Trader, breeder and producer recognized worldwide, sometimes nicknamed the “Pope” or the “King” of Beaujolais, Georges Duboeuf (1933 – 2020) comes from a long line of winegrowers. Established since 1964 in Romanèche-Thorins in the heart of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. Its heirs are intended to work in the line of its founder. Perpetuating this heritage means striving to reveal the talent of winegrowers and sublimating the great terroirs of your region.
Les Vins Georges Duboeuf is a house renowned for its Beaujolais Nouveaux and its great associated celebrations. It also offers all the Beaujolais and Mâconnais A.O.C.s through a range of wines appreciated by the specialized press. Today, the House is supplied by more than 300 winemakers. A true ambassador for the region, it exports 75% of its production to nearly 120 countries. The labels of his wines are easily recognized by their floral ornament. Since 1993, the Hameau Duboeuf, a veritable vine and wine museum, has been welcoming you for an initiatory day in Beaujolais country.

I don’t usually drink Beaujolais, but my spouse urged me to try this one, as once I decanted it, the aroma was quite heady and rich and full of almost port-like bouquet (and other fancy words). Yum!
At first sip, very bold and tangy on the palette. Grapy goodness and my spouse stated lovely stone-fruity vibes. We didn’t have any strong cheeses to go with it today, but we had some good heritage Bramley Apples and Almond spice cookies, both of which really brought that lovely jammy mouthfeel, even though it is a dry one. Sweet Chili Heat crackers also paired nicely to bring out more delicious smells.
Opened up nicely but retains a good bite. I bet this would be amazing with a good wintery stew with lots of root vegetables and mushrooms (Mmm Ropa Vieja!), or sat by the fireplace with good company, or a good book.
I feel like this one deserves a good spot in the cellar, because at 6, nearly 7 years it is doing just fine and aging handsomely.
Hey all, I was the lucky recipient of a bottle of the Brouilly to taste.
I’m always on the hunt for lighter reds, especially ones that drink well chilled, so I was excited to give this one a try.
I popped the cork and poured a glass, and tossed the bottle in the fridge so I could try it cold later.
First I’ll say I was surprised how dark the wine poured, a very deep purple. It has a subtle nose of black cherry and maybe a little pepper, definitely smells fruity.
My tasting notes are brambly dark fruit, cherries, blackberries… it’s definitely a fruit forward wine. It felt fairly round and actually had nice mouth coating tannins. Overall a nice but simple wine.
Chilled brought out more red fruits, almost like a strawberry jam followed by some white pepper. I was reminded of taking a bite out of a ripe plum a little bit. The tannins faded but there was still enough going on to keep me coming back. Sometimes a chilled red becomes a little boring.
Overall this wine is a good representation of this region… Pretty fruity, lower acid red that would be a solid pairing choice for Thanksgiving. It won’t be the center of conversation but you’ll keep refilling your glass.

WE the 2020…90 points. This estate has been run by six generations of the same family. From old vines, some dating back 140 years, this solid, densely textured wine offers ripe tannins and juicy black fruits. Lively acidity and spice embellish the finish. Drink from 2023. — Roger Voss. 4/1/22
Suckling the '20…92 points. Perfumed, with berry, lemon-rind, and wet-earth character. Some wet-cellar undertones. It’s medium-bodied with slightly firm tannins and a fresh finish. Drink or hold. 12/21
Still the '20 from Revista Adega, a Brazilian wine mag…93 points. A red wine made exclusively from Gamay grapes grown on vines approximately 50 years old, fermented and aged in oak foudres. Juicy and highly drinkable, it bursts with fresh black and red fruits, followed by floral, herbal, and sweet spice notes. Its vibrant acidity and firm, chalky-textured tannins bring fluidity and depth to the wine. It has a seductive and persistent finish, with reductive hints of blackberries, blueberries, and violets. Alcohol 13.5%. 6/23
Vinous still the 2020…83 points…a vanilla-y bouquet of ample pure red fruit; cassis aromas evolve with time. The palate is a little green on the entry. For me this does not offer the purity of the Brouilly under Domaine de Lafayette. Drink 2021 - 2022. Neal Martin 6/21
2020 again from Houlbergs Vinlog, blogger from Denmark…4.5 of 7. This Brouilly comes from 47 hectares of vineyards with up to 60-year-old vines, located around the old, stylish hunting lodge Château de Nervers. The vineyards have long since been sold off and are currently owned by 5 different grape growers who, through their collaboration with Georges Duboeuf, unite their fruit into this wine. The grapes are all harvested with a yield of under 50 hectoliters per hectare.
Head winemaker Denis Lapalu and master blender Emeric Gaucher crafted the wine by fermenting it in large stainless steel tanks. In the 2020 vintage, they contended with very healthy grapes but also worked day and night to manage the heating or cooling of the many steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 9 months in a blend of concrete and large foudres (large wooden vats).
On the nose, it is actually truly classic Beaujolais, with an almost rustic, country, and earthy aroma featuring a bit of banana, cherry, and blackcurrant, as well as menthol, ink, violets, licorice, and flowers. The aromas become a bit lighter with some air in the glass.
Taste-wise, the wine is also round and juicy, rustic and charming, though the acidity seems somewhat flat or at least subdued. However, it possesses a juicy freshness, a medium tannin bite, and a genuinely rustic, charming grip.
Sold by Løgismose, where a bottle costs 125 DKK.
On to the 2019…WE…87 points. With juicy fruits and a core of tannins, this wine is dense. At this stage, it is extracted and dominated by dryness. It will take time for the fruit to assert itself. — Roger Voss 3/1/21
Wilfred! 93 points.
COMMENTARY: The 2019 Domaine de Javernière Morgon offers rewarding fruit and excellent firmness on the palate. TASTING NOTES: This wine offers aromas and flavors of savory spices, earth, chalkiness, and ripe fruit. Pair it with a flavorful, slow-cooked beef stew. (Tasted: October 26, 2022, Napa, CA)
Mr Suckling…92 points. Aromas of dried strawberries, red apples, grapefruit zest and cloves. Button mushrooms, too. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tightly knit tannins and tangy acidity. Serious style. Drink or hold. 1/21
Wine Spectator…89 points. High-toned and floral on the nose, this bright red features flavors of macerated raspberry and cherry fruit, with accents of herb, spice and citrus. Light, taut tannins firm the smoke-tinged finish. Drink now. 1,800 cases made, 220 cases imported.
