Aromas of cassis, mocha and spicy oak introduce this fullbodied Cabernet Sauvignon. Flavors are framed by black plum, toffee, and spice with a touch of dried green herbs. Vanilla notes and minerality harmonize with a rounded finish highlighted by toasted oak and blackberry fruit. Drink upon release or cellar up to ten more years.
John and Jim Pedroncelli first planted Cabernet Sauvignon in 1965 making their mark in Dry Creek Valley. This was at the beginning of their six-decade business partnership which included many other milestones along the way. This wine blends brethren Bordeaux varieties and builds layers of striking flavors and character. The brothers have left an indelible mark on our family, our valley and the wine community.
Grape & Winemaking
Estate fruit was harvested from the East Side Vineyard and picked just a mile from the winery. Each of the Bordeaux grapes developed exceptional character on the vineyard sites situated on the valley floor and bench. The vines receive the right amount of sun and cooling fog which develops optimal flavors in the grapes.
The successful 2023 harvest brought excellent fruit quality and wines showing bright acidity and ripe fruit. The growing season was characterized by above-average rainfall, cool temperatures, and a long, slow maturation period, leading to a later harvest compared to previous years. The vintage brought a nice concentration of aromas and flavors.
Once at the crush pad, the grapes are de-stemmed and cold soaked for 48 hours. Inoculated with the Bordeaux yeast strain, fermentation followed in stainless steel tanks. During this time, in order to get the best color and flavor, the juice is circulated over the cap daily and gently macerated to extract the color and flavors from the skins. Once dry the new wine is pressed and stored until barreled in the winter. The separate lots were aged in French oak barrels for twelve months in order to develop smoothness and complexity.
For nearly a century, the Pedroncelli family has been crafting exceptional wines in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley. It all began in 1927 when John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased a vineyard and a small winery west of Geyserville; two elements have remained unchanged since then - the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family farms their vineyards and their dedication to creating fine wines.
During Prohibition, the family sold grapes to home winemakers to keep their vineyards alive. In the 1930s and 1940s, the Pedroncelli’s crafted a small base of business, and in 1948, John Pedroncelli, Jr. became the winemaker and his brother Jim took over as sales director in 1955. The winery was officially purchased by John and Jim from their father in 1963, and the line of wines continued to grow in the 1960s with vineyard expansion and diversification.
The third generation took over in the 1990s, refocusing the sales base to include high-ranking restaurants, casual dining and wine bars, as well as independent wine shops across the nation. Now, the fourth generation is joining the ranks and the company is 70% woman-owned, with a woman winemaker at the helm. For nine decades, the Pedroncelli family has been producing wines of the highest quality, tradition and heritage. Their commitment to excellence and their family-run business make them a trusted source of great wines - enjoy them with confidence.

So casemates under promises and over delivers as far as delivery dates go, IMHO. So estimated delivery is Nov 16-17. But my experience is they’ll be earlier. But I’ll be out of town, so I don’t want it earlier. Do I not place the order? Any other out?
@cheapbastard Can you do the ol’ “have it shipped to a UPS pickup location” trick? Doesn’t work for me, the local UPS stores won’t hold alcohol shipments, but it’s a technique many here employ.

2023 Pedroncelli Brother’s Mark Cabernet Sauvignon - $20 = 11.11%
A bit of chatter over on the previous offer tab but I see RWS offered this up in April and a few weeks ago and had this to say…The 2023 Pedroncelli Brother’s Mark Cabernet Sauvignon opens with pleasing aromas of ripe dark berry fruit plus a little cedar, licorice and baking spice. It’s a great, classic start, but this is still a pretty young wine so don’t be afraid to give it some time to breathe.
The wine tastes similar in the mouth which is a very good thing, featuring plenty of ripe dark fruit combined with a nice tannic structure and some of those other touches from the nose. It also has a soft, smooth mouthfeel making this quite easy to drink.
It ends dry, long and rather grippy and juicy on the finish. It was even a bit more savory on day 2. This is a crowd pleaser kind of Cab that also has enough complexity to satisfy the most discerning palate.
It’s a really good cab. I’d also call it a crowd pleaser. I have some bottles of the 2020? In the cellar, otherwise it would be an auto-buy. In fact, I opened one a couple weeks ago and it was delicious.
My apologies for the delay! I forgot to ask Charming Leo for his notes last night, and he’s away at work hand-crafting elegant code, so you’re gonna get my summary.
TL;DR: Pedroncelli makes reliably good wine, and this is no exception. Tasty AF.
The longer version: Our story so far, I am more a populist who likes whites and pinks, while my sweetie the ever charming Leo prefers a dry red. Also, not gonna lie, our wine “cellar” (the bottom shelf of the Ikea Billy bookshelf that serves as our very well stocked liquor cabinet) has been running low, with mostly dessert wines left, including things from the W**t wine era. IYKYK. We have been guilty of getting Kirkland-stuff-that-looks-good at Costco lately, because half of any bottle will end up repurposed into red sauce or my excellent beef & bacon stew.
This Pedroncelli is undeniably a level up from that. No shade to Costco and the folks actually making their inhouse branded wines, but this a red both Leo and I can get behind. Spicy-fruity on the nose. The first sip is for me, a hit of tannin, but that tapers pleasantly into spicy dark fruits. Plum, cherry, and not quite a smoky note, but something that just is “moreish”, as the Brits say.
Goes fine with the beef-and-bacon-stew-turned-into-a-pot-pie that Leo had for dinner, as well as my red beans & rice with andouille sausage. Very rounded in the mouth, with enough acid and tannin to stay interesting and linger without being too dry for me.
The color in the glass is a dark plum, and it has a lingering legginess that speaks of the nice rich mouth feel. When sipping, the taste lingers on the palate in a lovely way before fading into a kind of last breath of spice/berry/tannin warmth.
Without Leo’s notes, I feel at a loss to describe this to y’all. Look, it’s tasty AF. It drinks fine now, it will drink great later. If you get a case, that’s lovely host gifts for the holidays sorted, because anyone you give this wine to is gonna appreciate it. It feels cliched to call it a crowd pleaser, but honestly, it is.
I’m not drinking as much wine these days, but feel lucky to have visited Casemates today! This wine is a good deal at retail, and a screaming deal by the case here.
HEY! Charming Leo got home from a long day making the fine hand-crafted artisinal code, and added the following notes for me:
Tasted at room temperature after a meal.
Nose: Sweet berries, spice, hint of freshly sanded wood.
Palate: Berries, plum, spice, balanced tannins, hint of orange. Very slightly sweet-tannic finish.
This is a very drinkable red wine. Not as big as a Cab or a Zin, but it doesn’t need to be. Indeed, it complements rather than competes with your meal. Would go very well with beef stew, spaghetti and meatballs; or can stand alone on a quiet evening.
Hey all thank you for chiming in! Our Brother’s Mark Cabernet is a delicious Bordeaux blend or Brethren Blend, three main grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot with a dollop of Merlot. perfect for fall feasting or a mid-week sip. Aged to perfection in French oak, 30% new, and ready to enjoy. Yes on pairing it with the usual suspects of fall–don’t forget roasted mushrooms as a great pairing if you are vegetarian. 6 or 12 bottles is your choice but don’t forget the holidays are coming!
Normally I’d say “In for 2” as it’s usually an autobuy…but the cellar is full, the overflow is full, the secondary containment is full…Going to have to pass on a Pedroncelli Red for the first time…EVER. No, family has no room either, and I’d never see it again if I tried to store it there…LOL!

@mick And that 10-year hold comment rings very well with my experience with Ped wines in general. They pay off well with restful time in the cellar.
@rjquillin I don’t have 10 years to wait. #bummed

@cheapbastard ship it to a friend and hopefully there will be a few bottles left when you return : )

@cheapbastard @InFrom
I once forgot to change a delivery address, on meh, and a case was delivered to my PO box and sat in a locker there for awhile.
@InFrom Have done that, but the UPS $7 upcharge is unwanted.
@PaleMongo Especially for a @cheapbastard!
