Vineyard Specifics
Our Pinot Grigio vineyards are located in the rolling hills and warm climate of California’s Central Coast. As a winemaker, Janell discovered that she prefers Pinot Grigio grown in warmer climates. She feels they make for an approachable and balanced wine with the perfect amount of acidity and bright fruit.
Winemaking
Janell Dusi is the proprietor and winemaker, specializing in Zinfandel. She is a fourth generation farmer who was the first of the family to go beyond farming to produce signature wines from their vineyards. Janell honors her heritage by winemaking in the most native form. Her signature style is non-invasive wine handling. She chooses to age this Pinot Grigio in stainless steel to showcase the bright fruit and natural acidity of this varietal. Her winemaking style respects and reveals the natural varietal characteristics of Pinot Grigio.
Bringing J Dusi into the public realm of the wine industry has been a life-long dream for me. I grew up living on the vineyard, participating in grape farming, and begging for my Grandfather to teach me the winemaking process.
My first vintage was when I was sixteen. My Grandfather guided me through the process from the recollection of the days when his family ran the original “Dusi Winery” back in the '50s. I learned, from him, the REAL Italian way to make wine, which happened to be a slight variation of today’s California style wines.
My Great-Grandparents, Sylvester and Caterina Dusi settled into Paso Robles in the early twenties. They had three sons; Guido, Dante, and Benito Dusi. They were active proprietors in many local businesses including vineyards, farming, restaurants, and Dusi Winery. I was born and raised in the vineyard that my Grandfather Dante, his father and two brothers planted in 1945. As vineyards were rare in the area at that time, Zinfandel was the Italian varietal of choice. They implemented the farming practices of head-pruned vines and no irrigation, dry farming. Today, 65 years later, we still carry on their farming traditions and uphold one of the areas most loved vineyards. Dusi grapes can be found in some of the most sought after Zinfandels in Paso Robles.

@pmarin Enough of a penalty that I would lean towards a case. But since my loSIWBM (lack-of-Smell Imposed Wine Buying Moratatorium) for the last 2 years I have been “working” to bleed (drink) off excess inventory. However, I caved for a case of the recent Found Wine Co. Mission offering (which I see you missed), thinking about the coming summer and visiting families here and curious about a varietal I have never encountered.
My favorite Pinot Griguo. In for 2 cases. Would also love to see any of the other J Dusi reds including The Don. Would love to see a Paper Street offer as well.

Not the biggest Pinot Grigio fan in the world, but it’s a nice refreshing wine this time of year. If the Dusi Pinot Grigio is even half as good as the Dusi Escandalosa we had a couple of weeks ago, I’d want at least a case.
@pmarin
A few others have also commented on slow or non-responsive behavior. I asked the techs a couple of days ago as well and they reported the source site has been buggy for a few days now; not sure why, not not something they have control of…
We received a bottle of the Dusi Pinot Grigio just before a family beach vacation near Myrtle Beach. I’d love to say it was treated with great care and consideration, but that’d be a solid lie. I popped the cork and asked everyone in earshot to give it a taste. Here are some of the notes:
Strawberry / berry flavor
Dry
Light
Crisp
Sweet
Acid / tart
Good for warm weather
Buttery in start
Backend Tart
Goes well with raspberries
Yeah it’s a bit stream of conscious. We agreed collectively it would pair well with a summer charcuterie.
I think the “sweet” was an outlier. Just a hint that came from the flavor notes
It was overall fairly dry and refreshing; good for heat and humidity or a sunny day with friends.
@eburke thanks, that sound about right. I ordered 1/2 to try it. I am low on whites. I was a bit concerned because from mid-California, most commercial PGs tend to be too fruity and sweet for my liking. But I have had Dusi wines before and expected it to be above that; hopefully proves to be true.
I am in the Pacific Northwest where we have some excellent Oregon and Washington PGs, where we call it Pinot Gris. Often reasonable prices. If you find some, go try ‘em.

I’m not the most interesting man in the World, and I don’t always drink Pinot Grigio, but when I do, I drink J Dusi!

@Mark_L that is not too bad a “penalty”
I said no more wine buying but have to at least go for a 1/2 case for Summer.

@Mark_L @pmarin It’s also called Pais in South America
Waiting for some more Other Brother or even Model M, but, what the hell, I will buy this to serve to my white wine drinking friends!

@ddeuddeg
I had easier access to make the purchase than ddeuddeg did while we were out. In for a case. Splitting with some friends.
In the spirit of July 4th it is time for protest. An understood-tasty-protest.

Edit: bot not working today?
… oh, there. Took it a while. Had to feed the code hamsters first?

@eburke popped the cork? It has a. Stelvin enclosure!

@losthighwayz
100% thanks for catching that.
@eburke @pmarin we’ve had this bottling over the years and it’s a clean, no RS, low alcohol gem for the price. You’ll regret not getting a case! lol
@eburke haha I’m a huge Stelvin fan thanks for sharing your notes
